Can someone identify this fender amp?!?
I went to see a gig last night, it was open jam and the amp there was a fender. it was a white or blonde tolex head with a matching cabinet. the tone was amazing, it was so creamy and smooth, and the clean didnt even break up when it was cranked. I checked the fender website but couldnt find anything, is this an older discontinued version of a amo thats still in production? thanks for any help.
Congratulations. You have just heard a very rare, expensive, and good-sounding vintage amp that's now almost 50 years old. Unfortunately, since you don't know which amp model it was, I can't tell you just how much you'll have to shell out for the privilege of owning one for yourself.
Fender made a full line of amps in white tolex in 1961-63. They came in many different configurations of amps and speakers with different wattages and preamps. They are now considered transitional models of amps that would later reach eternal fame as the "blackface" line of amps in the mid-to-late 60s. Since they are a Fender amp from "the classic years" when the rock sound was being defined, they are very desirable and sought after, for reasons you have just discovered. They have never been reissued, though some custom builders do build clones of some of the circuits, giving you a similar sounding amp with new components at prices comparable to used units.
There were 4 different blonde amps in that configuration from the era:
Bandmaster: 40 Watts 2x12" cabinet
Bassman: 40 Watt bass amp, 2x12" cabinet (this also sounds great for guitar)
Showman: 80 Watts, 1x12", 1x15", or 2x15" cabinet
Tremolux: 40 Watts, 1x10" or 2x10" cabinet
