Pickups and Toggle Switch Questions on an Ace Frehley Les Paul. How are they configured on this guitar?

Can someone please explain to me the reason why Ace Frehley uses three of the same model number Dimarzio Super Distortion DP100's humbuckers in his guitars? Wouldn't the guitar signals coming out sound all the same since the same 3 style pickups are being used? What if different model number humbuckers were used instead?
Some LP's uses Burstbuckers 1 and 2 which are a different pickup configuration. Some artists use EMG 81 (neck) and 60 (bridge), so wouldn't this make different output sounds coming out of the guitar then?
Also, the 3 way toggle switch. Can someone tell me what each position of the switch plays or controls which humbuckers on the guitar?

Having three of the same pups in a guitar does not mean that they will sound the same. Your bridge pup will always put out more gain than your neck pup. Reason is because of the wiring.
The burstbucker is a more classic sounding pup than the EMGs. EMGs are made for more metal and hard rock whereas a burstbucker won't get you all the power that you can out of your axe. So, yes, a burstbucker will sound more classic than an EMG.
As to your toggle switch, in the down position, it selects your bridge pup only. In the middle position, it selects one of the coils from your neck and bridge pup. The top position only selects your neck pup.
