Electric Guitar Speed
How can you increase finger speed for playing solos and scales on an electric guitar?
For guitar beginner's who have reached an intermediate stage. Scales are leart, chords, fingering & picking tech., easy fast chord transgression, power chords, strumming, rythm, all of that is fine. Whats left is speed in the fretting hand. The fingers cant move too fast on the scales.. I know practice practice practice.. but any tips..?
there's a few techniques..
try putting your hands down on a table palms down and lift each finger up individually as high as it will go, make sure none of your other fingers lift up at the same time. do this often, what it does is separate motor control of each finger, which gets your brain used to sending different messages to each finger and will improve your accuracy and speed
Another one is to start slow and speed up, best to use a metronome and put it in front of you, lest you develop bad habits, then slowly advance in speed
Try getting 2 rubber balls that fit in your hands and that are reasonably hard to squeeze, these are better than gripmasters or springboards because they're much closer to the natural curl of your fingers and develop them much better. squeeze quickly, hold, then slowly let go, repeat until it's a real strain to do it, the harder the balls, the quicker your fingers will get.
Remember this: if you don't overload and fatigue your fingers, they won't get stronger, you have to give your muscles a stimulus to grow by overloading them.
