Broken Headstock-- Is the Fix Worth it?
The headstock on my Epiphone G-400 Deluxe guitar is cracked under the nut. It's pretty bad, I think the only thing holding the headstock on is the plastic truss rod cover. The strings are no longer tight at all, so it's not playable. I took it to my local repair shop and they said they could fix it for 100-120 dollars. However, they couldn't guarantee that it would work, and if the glue or whatever they use to fix it doesn't hold, they won't refund my money or fix it again. Is it worth it or should I just try and get a new guitar?
It's not a bolt on neck... It's an SG so it's all one piece.
I have an ibanez rg550 that I jammed the headstock into the ground. Snapped that jewel clean off. I chose to buy another neck off of ebay. Always a neck on ebay for the older ibanez. Was an expensive guitar and still worth a few bucks. Just bolts on with 4 screws.
Now, I see your guitar is around 200-500 bucks on ebay. I see no necks for sale today...With that said, I cant see you spending another 200 bucks for a "possible" fix. Take the money and get another axe. Hold what you got, check ebay for another neck or comb the internet until one pops up. Maybe get it for a few bucks less than fixing yours.
Once you get the neck you have 2 guitars. One for drop D tuning, e-flat or whatever. Saves you from having to tune down when you go from playing OZZY to Slayer... lol
