Guitar Pots Potentiometer
What are the prongs on a push/pull potentiometer?
I am going to change some of the potentiometers on my guitar to push/pull pots, but am somewhat unclear as to EXACTLY what each of the prongs are. So what are each of the prongs, and how would I wire one for volume and on/off? Please don't just say "Have a professional" do it as that does not help me in anyway- I want to learn.
If it's a pot (normal abbrev) with a switch then the rear of the pot usually has the switch section with two contacts, or maybe even four if is a double pole switch.
The front section is for the variable contacts where there are three "prongs" - the end two are for the fixed part of the pot and the middle is the slider which gives the variation in resistance and controlled by the rotation of the shaft.
If you have a multimeter with resistance ranges you can place the meter across the ends and see that the value does not change as the shaft is rotated. If you now connect the meter to the middle and one outer pron you will see the resistance varying as the shaft is rotated.
The middle prong is always the adjustable control of the pot and the outer two are always the fixed part of the pot.
