Lsr Roller Nut
How hard is it to replace the nut of an 1991 American Standard Stratocaster?
Hey, I've been having some tuning issues with my strat. ive replaced the tuners with Locking ones from SChaller, and now im looking into replaing the string trees, and nut with Graph Tech ones. Will this one fit my strat? http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Graph-Tech-Slotted-TremNut-for-Stratocaster?sku=360450 or should i get an LSR roller nut? http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-LSR-Roller-Nut?sku=361268 and if soo, does it take alot of skill to replace the stock one currently on my strat. i've heard that all u need to do is knock the old one out and glue the new one in. Can make the replacement, or should i bring it to an expreienced luthier? i also use .010 gauge strings.
Nevermind about the LSR roller nut..i just found out that u need to cut/file some of the first fret to make room for it...so ya, the roller nut is out of the picture.
Hi! Although I have no problems in completely disassembling, modifying, and reassembling my Stratocasters, I do not mess with the nut myself! That is one area (like the frets, as another example) where the skill of a knowledgeable guitar tech or luthier is well worth the money. Not only do you have to make sure the string spacing is correct, you also must insure the curvature matches the neck exactly so the string position relative to the fretboard is properly maintained; further, the exit point of the strings (towards the bridge) needs to be close to the original nut location so as to permit ease of intonation. Buying a pre-cut “one-size-fits-all” nut may or may not work for your particular application, so check with a technician first. By the way, I replaced the factory nut on my 1993 American Standard with the LSR Roller Nut, and the difference in tuning stability was significant. Yes, there was alteration done to the fretboard, but with all the other modifications I had made to the instrument to make it work better for my situation, that was just a small part! And yes, I did have it installed by a qualified technician. Hope some of this helps. Best regards, Dana
