Tattoo Machine help? 10 best answer!?
I have my outlining machine tuned to purrrrfection. But I can't seem to get my shader to purr like it should. It sparks at the contact screw, not lots but it shouldn't do that. It doesn't sound good, and doesn't work like it should. I've tuned it by the thickness of a nickel, it's a 10 wrapped coil. Does anyone know how to fix this? any hints or tips? also how many volts should I be running my shader at on my power pack?
And Is it normal for your coils to get warm when doing a tattoo? I have learned a lot from my uncle. He has been a tattoo artist for 5 years and is successfull at what he does. But I can't ask him because he is far away right now.
Please no smartass stupid comments that don't relate to the topic. And no stupid comments that tell me I need an apprenticeship and that I shouldn't be tattooing. I am very fussy about keeping my equipment sterile. And I am practicing on "practice skin" I tried to talk with the tattoo artist here but he is an asshole.

hey, i'm a tattoo artist as well, so this is how my shaders are set up, I have 12 coils on mine and it helps alot, in order to shade you want your gun to do a faster and more pounding motion than your liner of course, you can tell this by looking at the front of your gun where the grommet is (arm..bar) and set your power supply on about 10.5 (this way you can go up or down with the power while you are working on a tattoo depending on the person) now back your contact screw off until no power is connecting to the gun, now push your petal down and watch your grommet as you slowly bring your screw back down, when your grommet is making a fast sideways figure 8 motion you should be close to having it the way you need it, if its just going ujp and down, thats for shading, you will need to back it off some or move your power unit up a little...so good luck and i hope this has helped, if it's a last resort, some shops will tune your gun for you but they do charge you and most will not tell you how to fix it or what you can even do to prevent it from happening again!
