Peavey Replacement
I have blown my DJ speakers.i need to get them repaired/replaced.west midlands area preferable.?
i am a bedroom DJ and i have blown my speakers
(i dont know how, it wasnt thru blasting the life out of them!?!?!)
..and i need replacements. im not too clued up on frequencies and what not but i can give you as much info as i have.
I need to know the best place to go for to repair or replace my damaged speakers preferably in the west midlands/birmingham area.tried matthews but they want over £300.? is this reasonable?
I need a diafraghm for a cerwin vega TMH-1, which is out of a MT-102, i also need the mid driver out of that cab which is a LM-104.
i think i have blown the bass bin which is a sub-18, also cerwin vega.
(is there a way of definately telling if i have blown this and how bad the damage is?)
also, any golden rules so i dont repeat this very expensive experience again?
my amp is a Peavey PV2600 with a numark DXM-01 mixer.

Try to contact www.simplespares.com for Cerwin Vega spares. You are using a 18" in your bedroom??!!! I'm glad I don't live next door. Anyway, make sure you run your Peavey at full power to make sure you are using all available amp headroom. You can use a compressor limiter between the mixer and the amp but in a bedroom situation this is probably overkill as you would take your windows out before your speakers. Turn the amp on last. Don't switch the mixer on with the amp on and turned up, the crack you may get can take out your HF units. You could test the bass speaker with a cheap continuity meter or even with a PP3 battery. Take your speaker lead and connect it to the bass bin (NOT THE AMP) Take the end you would plug into the amp and somehow touch the battery across the pos and neg wires. If it's ok you should get a small click through the speaker as the voltage moves it. You can do this a couple of times. If it does not click it may be open circuit. Don't leave the PP3 on too long as if the speaker is short circuit it will get hot very soon.
