How many speakers can I safely power with my Peavey ValveKing 100 head?
Yor amp can deliver 100 watts (rms) into a16, 8, or 4 ohm (switchable) load. With that you can run an unlimited amount of speakers if you wire them correctly.
The secret is something called series and parallel wiring, which you can search for on the 'net. For example 2 identical 8 ohm speakers wired in series behaves electrically as if it were a single 16 ohm speaker. 2 identical sixteen ohm speakers wired in parallel behaves electrically as if it were a single 8 ohm speaker. Combining the two methods reveals the trick hidden within a typical 4-12 cabinet. 9 or 16 or even 100 identical 8 ohm speakers could be wired in similar series/parallel combinations and still total 8 ohms. The speakers don't even need to be housed in the same cabinet as long as the series/parallel wiring scheme is followed, although a cabinet with 100 speakers would appear awesome (and require an army of roadies to move).
The power from the head will be divided amongst the speakers.
Other possibilities exist depending on the output impedance switch setting on your Peavey. As long as the setting and your speaker combination is reasonably close, you're good to go.
