Can my old speakers be made into Subwoofers?
I have an old 12" speaker similar to this model (http://www.oaktreevintage.com/web_photos/Speaker_Parts/ROLA_1958_12_Inch_Speaker_web.jpg) and an 8" speaker like this model (http://www.oaktreevintage.com/web_photos/Speaker_Parts/Jensen_Model-P8RS_Woofer_web.jpg) .
I was wondering if there was a way I could convert these into subwoofers. I know there is a difference from speakers and subwoofers, but I don't know if I can make these speakers into subwoofers. If you know a way, it would be a big help. It might be something simple, and if it is, I don't mind being told so. I have never worked with subs before.
You can't really turn them into subs, due to many reasons. The magnet size of speakers are substantially smaller than subs. The surround is also not made for the bass either. Speakers don't have large xmax ratings (xmax is the excursion that the woofer can make in mm). The voice coils aren't built to handle the high rms ratings either. Sorry for the bad news!
