Stratocaster Strat Neck
can i repace a stratocaster guitar neck with a jackson neck?
i have a squire stratocaster body with a floyd rose, emgs, etc..., can i put a 24 fret jackson neck on the strat body?
ps: i've have heard that if i am able to do this, i would need to take the neck pickup out due to intonation problems. my other question is, could these intonation problems be fixed if i didnt take the neck pickup out?
also:please dont ask me why i cant just buy a new guitar.
My first question would be why can't you just buy a new....Ha ha, just kidding! At any rate, there are several companies that sell replacement necks, and the one I am most familiar with is Warmoth. (warmoth.com - check it out.) They sell 24 fret necks, and they have a Jackson style headstock - and I think you can even get reverse headstock, if so desired. Why they say you'd have to remove the neck pickup - most 24 fret necks are more or less a 21 or 22 fret neck wtih an extension of the fretboard, and that extension would stick into the neck pickup's space. It isn't so much the intonation that would be affected, it has more to do with not enough space on the guitar's body to accomodate both two humbuckers and a 24 fret neck.
All that being said, you can also search on e-bay for a 24 fret jackson neck. However, getting the neck isn't so much the problem. It's whether or not the neck can fit the body. Is the neck cavity too wide, or too narrow? Would the neck screws line up, or do new holes for mounting screws need to be drilled, which you want to do with a press rather than by hand. Then you have truss rod adjustments. You have to take a lot of measurements before you can actually attach a new neck, and if you don't have a handle on those kind of details, you shouldn't be screwing around wiht taking the neck off your guitar. Warmoth is very good about this sort of thing, as they require you to know how wide the neck cavity is. Hope this helps!
