What Type Of Subwoofer Box Is Better For My BMW??
I have a 2003 BMW 325i with 2 12" Alpine Type R SWR-1242D subwoofers and a Kenwood KAC-7203 1000 watt 2 channel amp & factory head unit. My Subwoofers are strapped into a sealed box and the bass is ok but I have been told that putting them in a ported box will definately blow what I am working with out of the water. I was wondering, considering that I have a BMW and it is really hard to get really good bass out of one, should I switch from a sealed box to a ported box or just adjust something that I have? Anything would help!
almost all subwoofers are designed to work in any enclosure environment. and, yes, a ported box would really boom compared to a sealed box. but it all depends on what kind of music you always listen to and what kind of bass you prefer.
i recently switched my phoenix gold QX15 from a sealed box to a ported box in my montero and, although its way louder now with the same settings, i noticed that i'm missing some sub bass frequencies i normally had with the sealed box.
bottom line is preference. if you want it loud, then i suggest a good ported box. if you want to hear, and feel, all sub bass frequencies, then stay with your sealed box. a little tweaking might be in order.
remember, in car audio, its all about what you want out of a system. you're the one driving the car everyday so it has to cater to you.
