Vintage Style Tremolo
The G string on my guitar keeps going out of tune?
My guitar is fairly new, It's a USA made Jackson Randy Rhoads.
I just put new strings on it and thought that would solve the problem of the G string going out of tune.. But it is still happening. It has a vintage fender style tremolo system, But I don't use the bar at all.... Just standard playing causes it to lose it's tuning. Just wondering what could possible be the reason ?
I am strictly a player, I can re string,Tune, And keep my axes clean. But I don't do hardware problems as I wouldn't want to mess anything up. If it's minor yes, But if it needs more attention ill take it to a pro. Let me know what could possibly be causing this. I appreciate it !!!!!
My guess is that the G string is hanging up in the nut. The next time it goes out of tune, try pulling up slightly on the string; if it pops back to pitch, you have found the culprit. Try a drop of light machine oil in the slot to see if that fixes the problem (some folks use graphite dust); if not, the slot may need to be re-sized for the string gauge you are using. I do not believe your guitar has string trees, but those can also be a source of string binding. Best regards, Dana
